| In ancient belief culture arrives through the female aspect: mankind cannot create without the gods who give song and story, invention and philosophy, and all the arts through the agency of female intermediaries, the Muses. The notion that creative arts are linked to the female aspect has endured for millenia. Even today schoolboys who prefer paints and pencils, culture to athletics, may be branded effeminate, so persistent is the received knowledge. The Muses is a growing suite of intaglio prints which recognizes and respects this living perception. |
